GAUMUKH GLACIER (4200m) - The Source of the River Ganges.

 

 The  River  Ganges  is the most holy of the rivers for the Hindus.  It is believed  that  a  holy  dip  in  its  waters cleanses one of all his sins, ensuring a place for him in heaven !   • Day01:Delhi-Haridwar - Early morning arrival at Delhi. 0700 hrs departure by train to Haridwar. Day at leisure to explore this holy town. Visit the 'Aarti' (holy ceremony) performance at the river 'Ghat' at sunset. Overnight in Hotel.
  • Day02: Haridwar-Gangotri - Drive to the road-head at Gangotri- an important religious place. Overnight in Guest House.
  • Day03: Gangotri-Bhojvasa - Begin the trek to Gaumukh. The trail is gentle and passes through very scenic landscape. Halt at Bhojvasa. Overnight in Guest House. ( 18 Kms; 7-9 hrs walking )
  • Day04: Bhojvasa-Tapovan - Start early morning and see the rising sun illuminate the majestic Mt.Shivling. Visit the mouth of the Ganges- the 'Gaumukh' glacier ( 3892m ) and proceed to Tapovan ( 4463m ), the base camp at the foot of Shivling. Overnight in Tents. ( 10 Kms; 7-9 hrs walking ) 
  • Day05: Tapovan - Day for rest and to explore the surroundings. Overnight in Tents. 
  • Day06: Tapovan-Bhojvasa - Retrace the route back to Bhojvasa. Overnight in Guest House. ( 5-7 hrs walking )
  • Day07: Bhojvasa-Gangotri - Continue back to Gangotri. Overnight in Guest House. ( 5-7 hrs walking )
  • Day08: Gangotri-Barsu - Drive to the village Barsu- a small isolated Himalayan village. Camp overnight in a scenic location.
  • Day09: Barsu-Dayara - Trek to the grasslands of Dayara ( 3048m ) - commanding a majestic view of the Greater Himalayan range. Overnight in Tents. ( 8 Kms; 5-7 hrs walking )
  • Day10: Dayara - Day to explore the grasslands. Overnight in Tents.
  • Day11: Dayara-Mussoorie - Trek down to the road-head and proceed by Jeep to the hill station Mussoorie- overlooking the Doon valley. Evening at leisure. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Hotel. 
  • Day12: Mussoorie-Delhi - Day at leisure to explore the town. After lunch, proceed to Dehra Dun to board the 1700 hrs Train to Delhi. 2230 hrs arrival at Delhi; proceed to the Airport for onward flight back home.
